I was casually browsing the Toronto Public Library website when a book title grabbed my attention: “Change Your Words, Change Your Life” by Andrea Gardner. Intrigued, I decided to give it a read. We’ve all heard the idea that a change in mindset can transform our outlook on life. But can changing our thoughts really change our lives?.
I wondered if a positive outlook could attract more positive experiences to my Etsy shop. With nothing to lose, I decided to try an experiment: writing down six things I’m grateful for every day. I don’t use a fancy journal; I simply jot them down in the “Notes” app on my phone.
In essence, this is a gratitude journal. In a world where I often feel like I’m falling short, finding moments of peace and positivity can be challenging. My gratitude list helps me cultivate a more positive mindset. I write down small things, like my cat’s antics that make me smile, enjoying a hot cup of coffee, or watching the rain dance on the window.
Gratitude journaling has shifted my focus from what’s lacking in my life to recognizing the abundance that’s already there. Instead of dwelling on frustrations or setbacks, I’ve started noticing the small joys and blessings that often go unnoticed: the pretty flowers blooming along the sidewalk, squirrels playfully hiding nuts in the backyard, or children laughing and playing in the evening. This shift in focus has helped reduce stress and increase happiness in my daily life.
Starting a gratitude journal is easy. Each day, take a few minutes to write down three to five things you’re grateful for. They don’t have to be big; in fact, noticing the little things can be even more impactful. As Andrea Gardner suggests in her book, once you start journaling, you’ll begin to see more and more things to be grateful for—it’s like attracting positivity into your life. I’ve certainly found this to be true..
Every day, I notice I’m creating more happy moments. This list will be a wonderful thing to return to when I’m feeling down, a reminder of the good things I have. Will this change my life and my craft shop? I’m not sure, but I’m open to exploring the idea
