Crochet Smash

A hand holding a big crocheted sunflower

It all started when Anu asked for something to put on her key ring. I was thinking about it. I haven’t many keyrings recently. The next day, she came up with a new idea. She said,” I like a sunflower to add to my Key ring.” Now, I have a picture in mind.

I did some searches to find images and ideas. There are tons! I already have bright yellow yarn in my stash. But, there is no brown to go with it. So, I bought Bernett premium yarn in brown to go with my Bernet premium yellow. I Made a sunflower with my 5mm hook. It was so big for a key ring. Isn’t it pretty though?

I need to make smaller version to put on keyring. My Size 3 crochet cotton thread is not bright enough. I redesigned it to have fewer petals. While I was playing with ideas, more sunflowers were bloomed from my hook. My daughter loved it. so, I gave her one to top her gift to a friend.

I splitted the four ply yarn to two ply and tried it. I wasn’t happy with it. finally, my 3mm hook came to rescue. With the altered pattern and 3mm hook, I made a bright yellow sunflower for Anu. Her smile was as bright as my sunflower.

I can’t resist crocheting more sunflower key ring holders. I added them to the Crochetsmash shop.
